Foreign Exchange trading, or forex trading as it is known, is using the open international exchange market to buy and sell almost all the currencies from around the world. Since the forex market is the entire planet, forex traders are not limited to the trading hours of the New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ. The forex market opens sunday night, and closes Friday afternoon, and runs 24 hours per day. The forex market is also the biggest market in the world, with over $1 trillion traded daily.

Foreign exchange trading is risky, and this is especially true with forex. Since the forex market in constant flux, there are plenty of opportunities for profitable forex trading. As a trader you simply get on the right side of a trade and make money as the exchange rate moves to create profits for you. You do this by buying currency pairs, such as GBP:JPY. The first currency listed is the one you buy (called the base currency), and the second one is the one you sell (called the “counter” or quote currency). When the base currency appreciates, you make money.

Good forex traders do something else besides making profitable trades. They learn how to identify sideways markets, and stay out of the market while no noticeable movement is being made. They are resting on the sidelines while novice traders are jumping in with nothing more than hope for strong up trending (long) markets or down trending (short) markets.

Managed forex accounts are accounts which you own, but someone else trades. Their services are most attractive to people with no time to trade, or who have insufficient knowledge of the vast idiosyncratic foreign exchange market. With a managed account, you simply let the forex trading experts lead the way.

Black box trading is trading without knowing why the markets are going wherever they are going. Black box systems are developed using historical analysis of trading patterns and use a collection of indicators to identify profit opportunities. As you can imagine, forex trading has become a full-time passion for many people.

Still, the fact remains that the foreign currency exchange market is no place for beginners. Many people are excited to know they can be investing their money in currency trading, but when they see how quickly money can be lost, the fear sets in. Luckily, there are many affordable ways to learn forex trading, and with some persistence and some luck, you can be as successful as the big forex trading companies.
